First Rifle Elk Season

He shot this elk on the first morning of the hunt.

So big that the antlers can double as monkey bars!

I wish they were all close enough to get with the tractor.......

On the 4th day of the hunt.

But some we have to pack out of the canyon with horses.

  1. The first bull above is my 7x7 taken on the opening morning of the first gun season with J&J Outfitters in Cortez, CO. My borther and I had dreams of killing 280-300" bulls but never imagined we would come home with such amazing trophies. My bull scores 374 6/8" Boone & Crocket Gross (green)and weighed over 1,000 pounds on hoof. My brothers scored 297 4/8" gross. I saw over 100 elk the first day with 25 of those being bulls. It was absolutely a hunt of a lifetime and I cannot wait to go back again. I would strongly recommend and endorse J&J Outfitters for anyone looking to see a lot of elk and looking for an opportunity at a good bull.
